Apple is reportedly working with Dropbox to resolve an issue that has led to a number of developers' iOS apps being rejected from the App Store.
The apps, which are based on the Dropbox SDK, are apparently being rejected because they contain links to external purchase options. The issue has raised the ire of developers, who took to Dropbox forums to criticize Apple's action.
However, that action seems to be in line with Apple's App Store rules, which prohibit external purchases if there's not also an option for Apple's in-app purchases. Apple's developer rules state: "Apps that link to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app, such as a 'buy' button that goes to a web site to purchase a digital book, will be rejected."
Dropbox released a temporary workaround to address the issue this evening that removed the link, and a "better solution" is promised in the next week.
In the meantime, Dropbox is said to be coordinating efforts with Apple.
"Apple is rejecting apps that use the Dropbox SDK because we allow users to create accounts," Dropbox told AppleInsider in a statement tonight. "We're working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience."
